North Carolina Baptist Men, working in partnership with the Baptist Convention of Kenya, will sponsor mission teams to the African nation of Kenya. The nature of the mission effort will be three-fold: 1) to aid in the construction of a girl's dormitory for the Nyeri Baptist High School; 2) to partcipate in a house-building/church planting effort in Western Kenya, and 3) to send evangelism/outreach teams to strategic areas of the country.

Construction Teams for Nyeri Baptist High School (NBHS):

Located in the town of Nyeri, about two hours north of Nairobi, the Nyeri Baptist High School is owned and operated by the Baptist Convention of Kenya. Started by the Kenya Mission, it is one of the very few high schools that were not taken over by the government in the 1960's. It has since grown to a full boarding school that has attained status as one of the best high schools in the district. The students recieve excellent scholastic instruction in a Christ-filled environment. In recent years, the high school has discovered the need to develop a seperate stream of education for female students.

Houses of Hope Project in Kisumu:

The Kenya Baptist Convention has undertaken a bold initiative of planting 1000 new house churches in the next five years. One of the strategies for doing this involves community service projects in which mission teams help build a house for four needy families in strategic church plant areas. These are usually widows, many of whom are forced to move back to their homeplace after their husband dies. They are often at the mercy of the community for any housing at all. The house building project brings the community together for service to one of its members and exposes them to the gospel through a house dedication service. Local pastors are active in planning, conducting, and follow-up of the project with the goal of starting a Bible Study in the new homes, and eventually a new church in the area. Teams will also have great opportunity to minister with the many children who gather for the project, as well as one on one opportunity to witness to those who gather.

Evangelism/Outreach Teams in Muranga:

Teams are needed to engage in a variety of evangelism and outreach activities, which may include door to door evangelism, prayer walks, children’s ministry in local schools, sports camps, music – or any combination of the above. Working with a young church planting couple, teams will serve in strategic areas near Muranga, about an hour's drive north of Nairobi.
