Honduras
NC Baptist Men have been sending teams to Honduras for the past fifteen years. The purpose of our being in Honduras is to partner with Honduran congregations in proclaiming the gospel of Christ. All teams (including construction) are encouraged to participate in evangelistic outreach to the community in which they work. This may include prayer walks, door-to-door visitation, the showing of the “Jesus” film, VBS or Backyard Bible Clubs for the children, etc. Most of our area of focus in 2013 will be south of Tegucigalpa, in and around the Choluteca area, as there are many needs in that area.

2012 has been a great year for our Honduras partnership. Twenty-one teams have signed up to serve through the end of December. Volunteer teams: 1) built houses for a needy families, 2) led in evangelistic efforts, and 3) participated in medical and dental clinics. Honduran families are being reached and local congregations are being strengthened. A mission trip to Honduras is a great way for you and your church to experience international missions and have a lasting impact for Christ! Pray about taking a team to Honduras this year or joining as an individual. It will be a life-changing event for you and your church. General information about 2013 trips is listed below.

Mike and Ginger Greene serve as our on-site coordinators in Honduras. The Greenes, from Wake Forest, do a great job making sure things are ready for our teams when they come to serve. You can follow the news from Honduras by reading the Greene's web blog at:

Trip Details
Trip Cost
The basic price of the trip will be $1100 per person. This includes round-trip airfare, insurance, in-country transportation, in-country logistical support, lodging, meals, orientation materials, and T-shirt. You will need to take an additional $38 cash with you for airport exit tax, plus money for souvenirs you may want to buy. (Price does not include materials that will be needed for ministry, i.e., VBS materials, building materials, medical supplies, etc. See below.)
Material Cost
Each construction team must provide the cost of materials. The cost to each team for a construction project will be $3000. This amount must be received in our office 30 days prior to your departure date so that job site preparation may begin and materials delivered on-site prior to your arrival. Medical teams will also incur some costs to cover the services of a Honduran doctor and other expenses. Evangelism teams will need to supply and bring down their own Spanish materials. (Spanish Bibles can be purchased by our on-site coordinators on behalf of the team.)
Teams
Teams should be comprised of no more than 12 members, and no less than 7 members. Having a Spanish translator on each team will be very helpful to every team, but is not mandatory for construction teams. Evangelism and medical teams will need at least two translators. In some cases, on-site coordinators may be able to secure additional translator, but the team will need to pay their costs. The team leader can discuss this with the on-site coordinator. Construction teams need at least 1-2 members who have construction and/or block laying skills. On-site coordinators will arrange logistics. Teams will need to come ready to prepare their own breakfast and lunch (suppers can be prepared for the team) and clean up after each meal. Kitchen facilities and all food is provided.
Youth teams are welcome! (Must have 1 to 3 adult/youth ratio) Applicants must be at least 16 years old to participate.
Health
Team members must be in good physical health. Anyone with a chronic medical condition should not volunteer for these projects. This area of work can be quite hot. Volunteers will need to make sure the following shots are up to date: Typhoid, Hepatitis A, and Tetanus. Malaria pills are also recommended for most areas. Tell whoever administers your shots that you will be traveling to Honduras. (They may suggest other shots. This is up to you.)
Travel
All travel will be arranged by NC Baptist Men. (Click "Opportunities to Serve" to see a list of available dates.) All trips will be nine days in duration. Volunteers must depart from Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh/Durham, Greenville (SC), or Atlanta. (Travel may be possible from other cities, but may involve an additional cost.)
Living and Working Conditions
Those participating in this effort must be flexible and willing to work as a member of the team. Travel, living, and working conditions may be difficult at times. The work may be quite strenuous and the climate will be hot. Once applications and deposits have been received, team members will be sent an orientation manual, which will answer many questions about the trip. There is a special orientation manual for medical teams.
Other
Smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking alcoholic beverages is highly offensive to Honduran Christians. Team members must refrain from these activities while in Honduras. Also, be aware that tattoos, multiple ear piercings (ear lobe, center of ear), and facial piercing are “no-nos” for Honduran Christians. Team members MUST cover tattoos and remove extra piercings.
