What? Construction of a Chapel for the Mountaintop Baptist Assembly. The state camp of the Wyoming Baptist Convention is in need of a chapel. NCBM have been sending cook and maintenance teams to the camp since 2006 and have a good working relationship with the camp leadership. Design will include worship space and bathroom facilities and will be approximately 40’ x 60’.

Where? The camp is located on Casper Mountain, about 20 minutes outside of Casper, Wyoming. At 8100’, the camp provides a beautiful atmosphere for Wyoming Baptists, young and old, to hear God’s voice. Casper is the county seat of Natrona County, and, with a population of 55, 316, is the second-largest city (to Cheyenne) in Wyoming. Casper is nicknamed "The Oil City" and has a long history of oil boomtown and cowboy culture. Casper is located in east-central Wyoming at the north end of the Laramie Mountain Range, along the North Platte River. Interstate 25 approaches Casper from the North and East and is the main avenue of transportation to and from the city.

Who? Teams of 8-16 adults are needed to complete several phases of the building project. Each team should have a “core” of volunteers who have solid construction experience and know-how. Each team needs to bring at least two people to be ready to assist in meal preparation. We will try to schedule up to 16 volunteers per week, so we could have more than one team on site per week, depending on team size.

How? Because of the elevation and possible snow pack, construction will begin in mid-July and go through September. Teams will sign up for a date through NC Baptist Men. When an assignment is made, the team leader will be put in touch with the camp director who will provide information on housing and meal options, etc. As time draws near, the team leader will correspond with NCBM coordinator for construction information. Each team member will need to register with NC Baptist Men, and enroll in the volunteer insurance program. ( $5 per person).

Field Costs: Teams will arrange their own travel to Casper. Driving will be an option for some. Raleigh, NC to Casper WY is 1844 miles. Direct flights are available into Casper. Denver CO (278 miles) is also a flight option that some teams may want to pursue. Flights into Denver are usually less expensive. Teams will need to rent vehicles if they fly. Van rentals run between $500-700 per week for a mini-van. Lodging will be available for teams either at the camp or at a church in Casper, depending on how full the camp session is that particular week. Teams who serve during the camp season can take their meals at the camp for a small fee. Teams that serve outside of the camp season will be responsible for their own meals, but can use kitchen facilities at the camp and/or church.

Other Costs: Teams are encouraged to contribute $2000 toward the purchase of building materials if possible. (Not required)
