GU14-122
June 14 -21, 2014
Xela, Guatemala

North Carolina Baptist Men, working in cooperation with IICD (International Indigenous Community Development) in central Guatemala, will send teams to assist with 1) the completion of a community health clinic and leadership training center; 2) the renovation of a children's home that will start operation in 2014.

The Quiche Health Clinic and Training Center
The unfinished center is already functioning as a primary-care medical clinic, seeing ten to twenty patients a day. Guatemalan nationals will be trained here to serve as Community Health Evangelists, dedicated to meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of the Quiche in the name of Jesus Christ. The facility is also being used to train pastors, youth, women, and children. When completed, the training facilities will have capacity for 55 beds for overnight events. It will also include four examination rooms, a pharmacy, offices, a small cafeteria/conference room, and bathroom/showers. Volunteer teams, with local supervision, will work throughout 2014 to bring this beautiful facility to completion.

The Good Shepherd Children’s Home
IICD is partnering with North Carolina Baptist Men, the North Carolina Baptist Children's Home, and a Guatemalan charity to start a children’s home for disenfranchised Quiché children. A reputable Guatemalan organization has lent IICD the use of an excellent building for this purpose for the next 20 years. There is work to be done in order to prepare the building for the children. The immediate need is for teams to erect a nine foot security wall around the property. This will be a cement block wall. Each team should have a couple of masons and a few helpers. Other teams are needed to help repair, spackle, paint, and clean the building. Teams will also garden, and generally spruce up the exterior of the property. Once the center is up and running, some teams may also be needed for ministry activities.  Background checks will be required of any volunteer serving at the Children’s Home.

Trip Cost: The cost of the trip will vary according to two factors: 1) number of volunteers on the team, and 2) current price of tickets. Here is an estimate based on two possible ticket price ranges. This is provided just to give an idea of price range.
