The Quiche Baptist Association, in conjunction with IICD (International Indigenous Community Development) has asked North Carolina Baptist Men help in the construction of a Health and Training Center. The center will function as a primary care medical clinic and will be devoted to changing communities through development projects and Christian Public health education. The facilities will be used to train Community Health Evangelists, midwives, pastors, youth, women, and children. Teams will work with a long-time missionary on site to construct a rock and adobe structure. This will be the first unit of the training complex. Others will follow.

Team Size: Ideal team size is 8-12 members. Some costs for the trip are “per team” costs. The more you have, the more you spread the cost out. If a church or association wants to put a team together, that can be done. Individuals who are interested may be able to add to an existing team.

Logistics: NC Baptist Men will arrange airfare, lodging, and in-country transportation, and other logistics for each team. Teams will stay in a nice hotel with clean rooms and showers in the city of Quetzaltenango, known locally as Xela (Shay-lah). The project is a short drive from there. Arrangements will be made to pick teams up and return them to the airport in Guatemala City (about a three hour drive).

Costs: Overall cost will fluctuate depending on 1) number of team members, and 2) cost of airline tickets. Field costs for the trip will be from $690 (12 team members) to $880 (eight team members) and will include food, lodging, in-country transportation, building materials, orientation, and insurance, plus airfare. Airfare will run from as low as $500 to $800, depending on time of year. Team may need to bring some tools. Each team member will need valid passport and some immunizations.

More on Costs: The cost of the trip will vary according to two factors: 1) how many volunteers, and 2) current price of tickets. Here is an estimate based on two possible ticket price ranges. This is provided just to give an idea of price range.
