Christian High Adventure
New Adventure TracksAges 14-17 can now choose to participate in one of our new adventure tracks in addition to our regular North Woods camp, each time they attend Caraway!
TRACK 1 - White Water Rafting
Journey down the raging river for an experience of a lifetime! Learn how to select and set up a campsite, use a cook stove, packback, and many other aspects of camping. We'll travel to and set up "Base Camp 2" at our White Water Outpost, where our certified guides will instruct and accompany us in our excursions down the river and elsewhere, experiencing the great outdoors that God has blessed us with. By Thursday, we will regroup with the rest of Camp, and then enjoy more fun times of camp life..games, swimming, high ropes, etc. until time for pick-up on Friday!
TRACK 2 - Mountain Biking
Who wants to go for a ride in the park? Well, if that's all you want, then don't bother signing up for this week! We're talking hard-core, off-the-chain mountain biking! We'll learn how to select and set up a campsite, use a cook stove, pack a backpack, and many other aspects of camping. Our trained staff will help familiarize you with your new equipment. Then we will hit both trail and "Single Track"--testing out our new-found skills, realizing this "ain't no trip to Grandma's house!" That's right, you actually have to pedal! By Thursday, we will regroup with the rest of Camp, and then enjoy more fun times of camp life...games, swimming, high ropes, etc. until time for pick-up on Friday!
TRACK 3 - Backpacking
Don't think you can carry everything you would need to survive on the Appalachian Trail for five days and still enjoy it? Find out what gear you do and don't need, how to set up your camp site, cook on a stove you can hold in the palm of your hand, and read a map and compass. Our trained staff will teach you the art of "ultralite" backpacking. We don't want you to be burdened down with a heavy pack, but to be able to enjoy your time on the trail. Don't misunderstand though--you will still need to be able to walk 8 to 12 miles a day over uneven terrain with constant elevation changes while being chased by cougars and 400-lb black bears. (Okay, we're only kidding about the "being chased" part!)
NOTE: The Backpacking program begins one day earlier than the rest of camp. Please call for details.
Very Affordable
The cost of participating on a CHA week is $235 per person. This cost includes transportation from Camp Caraway (near Asheboro, NC) to the trail head and back, all food, supplies, instruction, and use of all needed equipment. This makes it possible for you to experience such an adventure without purchasing hundreds of dollars worth of equipment. You will need to provide your own boots and personal clothing.
Who Can Participate?
Participants must be physically capable of carrying a pack that weighs 30-40 pounds. Trips are not designed to overwork participants, but there is some physical stress involved. Each trip is limited to 12 participants. Two college aged CHA staffers of proven spiritual maturity and technical expertise will lead each trip.
Each Adventure Track will consist of daily quiet times and staff-led devotions as well as times given for reflection and recuperation. All staff will be trained and certified in CPR and first aid. Gear and food are provided and a "What to Bring" list will be mailed to you with your confirmation packet.
