Our outstanding camp staff make our program awesome! A great amount of prayer, time and effort goes into the process of screening, selecting, training, and supervising the dedicated summer staffers who serve as Camp Counselors and Counselors in Training at Camp Caraway. All Camp Counselors have finished at least one year in college, and all Counselors in Training are at least age 16. Staff screening includes completing an application, 4 references, interview with the director, and a national background check including criminal and national sex offender. In addition to our summer staff, we have excellent pastors and missionaries who lead our daily worship and missions sessions.
Accreditation and Safety
Camp Caraway is Accredited by The American Camp Association
. This accreditation has helped Caraway make risk management and prevention a top priority. Campers have staff or chaperone supervision at all times while at camp. In addition to the special training all staff members receive in working with their particular age group assignment and specific recreation training, they also are trained in first aid, CPR, and basic water rescue. A certified lifeguard is on duty at all swimming times at the Caraway pool and lake. Chaperones from each church group will be required to complete a background check.
The Caraway facilities are owned and operated by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Caraway features 18 comfortable cabins, a grade A kitchen and dining hall, an indoor worship center, a snacks "canteen" building, a large lighted covered activities building, a large lighted recreation field, outdoor chapels, a beautiful lake and a swimming pool. All cabins used during Children's camp are modern and include air conditionaing. The beds are twin sized bunk beds. Each top bunk has rails around the entire bed.
The dining hall is designed to feed the entire camp at one sitting. Campers eat family style with their own church group. The food is a blend of kid friendly food with options of fruits and vegetables. A salad bar and peanut butter and jelly bar are available at all lunch and dinner meals. At breakfast we offer cereal and yogurt options in addition to the hot meal. The kitchen and dining facilities consistently receive a grade "A" rating and our kitchen manager is certified in Serve Safe. Campers will have the optional opportunity to purchase snacks and drinks in our camp canteen daily. Water coolers are available to refill water bottles all across camp.
**Group leaders of campers with special food needs should contact our director
before coming to camp so we may best serve you.
The church group leader will register the group. After registration the group leader will receive additional information via e-mail including: what to expect info, medical and waiver forms, chaperon background checks, etc. There must be 1 gender specific chaperon per every 6 children, no exceptions. These chaperons must be back ground checked by the church.
